Examination

A complete examination is the most important clinical tool in determining ocular health.

History and Diagnostics

To begin your pet's eye exam, a one of our highly trained technicians will obtain a comprehensive medical history and assess your pet's visual reflexes. The staff member will also perform our Standard Diagnostic testing included in each New Patient Consultation.

Communication between our office and your primary veterinarian is very important. Our staff will contact your hospital to request your pet's medical history prior to your arrival.

Anterior Chamber Examination

After discussing your pet's medical history with you, the doctor will evaluate the front of your pet's eye, including the lids, cornea and iris, using a method called Biomicroscopy. This allows the doctor see the structures of the eye in  detail.

Posterior Chamber Evaluation

Following evaluation of the anterior chamber, the doctor will administer a medication to encourage your pet's eyes to dilate. You and your pet will be asked to wait in a darkened room for a brief period. Using both direct and indirect examination, the doctor will then evaluate the lens and retina to determine their health.
